Sustainability Week at Polaris!

June 5, 2026

Polaris proudly hosted our first-ever Sustainability Week, led by Director of Sustainability, Fulya Karakas-Akgun and our Sustainability Committee.

Over five days, our team participated in five sustainability-themed workshops, challenges and interactive learning activities that employees could join both in the office and remotely. The week focused on building awareness, sharing knowledge and encouraging everyday actions that support a more sustainable future.

Each day was filled with engaging discussions, friendly competition and opportunities to learn more about sustainability at work and at home. Activities and topics included an interactive waste sorting game, a facility-wide energy hunt, a zero-waste cooking challenge, carbon footprint calculations, a pledge wall and a bird feeder building session. In the spirit of our sustainable food theme, we also had the pleasure of hosting a snack packing event for Food4Kids to help support children experiencing food insecurity in our community.

Fulya shares, “Sustainability Week was a wonderful opportunity for our team to step away from their daily routines, learn about important sustainability topics and engage with one another through fun and interactive activities. It was inspiring to see the level of participation and enthusiasm throughout the week and it reinforced the awareness and collective commitment to making a positive impact both at work and in our communities.”

Thank you Julia Kole from Partners in Project Green (PPG), for joining us and participating in the Food4Kids snack packing event. A special thank you to Fulya and our Sustainability Committee for their leadership, creativity and dedication in bringing Sustainability Week to life and to everyone who participated and made the week such a success!

It was especially fitting that our first Sustainability Week coincided with Toronto’s first-ever Climate Week, reinforcing the importance of collective action and environmental stewardship in our communities and workplaces.
