ABOUT US | Community Care Unit

FIGHTING HUNGER IN OUR COMMUNITY

At Polaris, we are committed to supporting our community and uplifting those in need around us. In September 2023, we took our charitable efforts to the next level by launching the Polaris Community Care Unit (CCU), aimed to make a positive impact on people facing food insecurity.

This initiative is part of the Polaris Sustainability Action Plan pillar, We Care About Our Community in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goal of achieving Zero Hunger in the future. With a focus on the areas where we live and operate, the CCU is helping local food banks, soup kitchens and shelters meet increasing demand for food.

Our dedicated team is regularly hitting the road in our CCU van to deliver essential items to our charitable partners’ doorsteps. These services involve purchasing and distributing high-nutrient foods for people of all ages.

Why a community care unit

Hunger is at an all-time high due to rising food and living costs. Recently, over 1 million Ontarians – making that every 1 in 16 individuals – were reported to be relying on food assistance programs to feed themselves and their families. These organizations need support to replenish their inventories and ensure they can feed the high volume of visitors they receive each day.

We are honoured to share that since its inception, the Polaris CCU has transported and donated over 30,000lbs of essential food items to the below cities and their surrounding regions in the Greater Toronto Area, Southern Ontario and the USA:

  • Mississauga
  • Toronto
  • Scarborough
  • Brampton
  • Hamilton
  • Oakville
  • St. Catharines
  • Fort Erie
  • Barrie
  • Orangeville
  • Newmarket
  • Guelph
  • Cambridge
  • Waterloo
  • Caledon
  • Collingwood
  • Tonawanda, NY
